Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Are your candles eco-friendly? Absolutely! Our candles are made from high-quality eco-friendly materials.
  2. How can I make my candles last longer? Always trim the wick to a 1/4 inch each time before lighting. This will help to ensure that you get an even burn every time.
  3. What is tunneling? Tunneling is where the candle wax leaves a large ring of un-melted wax on the sides of the jar.
  4. What causes tunneling? Burning your candle for small amounts of time repeatedly will cause your wick to struggle and perform poorly. You should always aim to keep your candle lit for a minimum of 3 to 4 hours each burn. Drafts can also play a role in improper candle burning thus causing tunneling.
  5. What should I do if my candle arrives damaged? Contact us immediately at www.delmarvacove.com. We will evaluate the issue and make it right. We may request photos of the damaged product as well. You will have 30 days in which you can return it.
  6. Can I return or exchange my candle? You have up to 30 days to return or exchange. We will accept returns depending on the usage amount. We will not accept products that have been used more than once. Exchanges will be granted as long as the product was not used or altered in any way. You must provide a receipt upon request.
  7. How long do your candles last? Our candles, if properly burned, last a minimum of 40 hours each. Remember to always follow proper burning procedures.
  8. Do you use lead wicks? Absolutely not! Lead wicks have been banned in the United States since 2003.
  9. Why do candles soot? Soot is a normal process in the burning of a candle. Soot is derived from incomplete combustion. All candles produce soot whether it may be noticeable or not. Certain oil and wax combinations in candles can contribute to soot as well.
  10. Is soot harmful? No, the chemical makeup of candle soot is different from soot formed by diesel fuel and gasoline.
  11. How can I minimize soot? Always trim your wicks before each burn. Do not let your candle burn for a long period of time. Keep your candle away from drafts that can be caused by open windows, fans, and underneath ceiling vents.
  12. Why is my candle smoking? Make sure that your candle is away from drafts. Always trim your wick before every burn and minimize long periods of burning. Check to ensure that there are no foreign objects in your candle wax.
  13. Why can I not smell my candle burning? There can be many factors attributing to this but the most common reasons are fixable. Make sure that the room you are burning your candle in makes sense for the size candle you are burning. Smaller rooms such as some bedrooms, bathrooms, or smaller working spaces are comparable to a smaller size candle. Larger spaces such as kitchens, living rooms, and open floor plans with high ceilings, may require larger or multiple candles to accommodate those spaces. Other, factors could be the improper burning of your candle. Always let the candle burn for a minimum of 3 to 4 hours every burn. If the wick is struggling to keep up, so will the scent throw. Burning your candles in a kitchen while actively cooking, can hinder the scent. Having your candle lit in a drafty area can cause the scent to travel to another space inside your home.
  14. How do I extinguish a candle properly? Carefully blow the flame out. You can also use a candle snuffer. Never use water to extinguish your candle. Water and wax do not mix.
  15. How do I trim my wick? Purchasing a wick trimmer preferably sized for 1/4 inch is the most ideal. You can also use a pair of scissors or a snipper. Do not trim the wick too low or it may cause tunneling.
  16. What should I do if my flame looks to be too large? Extinguish it immediately! A large flame could be caused by an improperly trimmed wick. There could potentially be an unforeseen issue with the materials. Leaving a candle to burn in a drafty environment may also be a contributor.
  17. Should I continue to burn my candle if the container appears to be cracked? Absolutely not! A cracked container could be caused by damage from both shipping or a manufacturing flaw. If a candle is left to burn for a long period of time, this can also damage the integrity of the jar. Candle jars can explode! Never burn for more than 4 hours at a time.
  18. Can I move my candle while it is burning? No, for safety reasons you should wait until the burn is complete and the wax has resolidified.
  19. What are wax melts? Wax melts are little pieces of scented wax. They are flameless and are used to scent a room. Many people prefer them because there is no threat of an open flame.
  20. How do I use wax melts? You will need to purchase a wax warmer or tea light warmer. Follow the manufacturer's instructions.
  21. How long do our wax melts last? This depends upon several factors. There are many kinds of wax warmers available on the market. Warmers have different bulb wattage. Most range from 15 to 40 watts. The longevity of a wax melt depends upon how high or how low the bulbs wattage. A warmer also has its limits. For example: The less wattage from a particular bulb that a warmer uses, typically the longer the wax melts scent lasts. The drawback would be that the wax melt would have a weaker scent throw. The larger the bulb is in wattage, the stronger a wax melt would be. The drawback to this would be that the wax melt's lifespan will be shorter. These reasons play a factor in a wax melt's longevity. Our wax melts on average last a long time.
  22. What waxes do you use for your melts? We mix our very own custom blend from only the highest quality materials. Unfortunately, our recipe is our very own company secret.
  23. How long do your car air fresheners last? We use 3mm cotton card stocks which is thicker than your average car air freshener. This allows us to add more oils for better longevity. Our freshener's lifespans vary depending on environmental factors. The condition of one's vehicle can directly attribute to the freshener's longevity. Smoking, trash, and other unpleasant odors, can hinder the air fresheners performance. Weather conditions such as excessive heat, can lessen the life cycle of a freshener due to rapid evaporation. Our testing averaged anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months. This can also depend on one's sensitivity to odors and how often they use their vehicle.
  24. Can someone have an allergic reaction or asthmatic episode from any of your products? While this is always a possibility, it all depends on the individual and their medical conditions. If you are asthmatic, it may be best to avoid any scented products that we sell. Scented products can most commonly cause headaches, watery eyes, and nasal issues with those who may have sensitivities.
  25. How do I use your car air freshener? Simple, open the package, take it out, and hang it on your rear view mirror. Never place it on your dashboard or seats. Enjoy
